Bridges

Moments don’t make a relationship
And I only know moments

Dances in sparkling light,
Strong arms around me
Or tops of mountains scaled,
Glistening with sweat
Laughter between pillows,
A hand on my leg.

But the moments between moments
The bridges between highs?
I don’t know how to cross them
Or build them brick by brick

I leap from moment to moment
Gasping for breath at the pace
Searching for the next landing
Hoping a moment will catch me

Because between moments are chasms,
Silences filled with work,
A different kind of sweat.

You can’t build a bridge alone
God knows I’ve tried.
And why build a bridge that will be burned?

I would rather have moments
Bright flashes and loud sensations.

Fuck your bridge, troll
